Alongside current students, alumni, faculty, emerging artists, and seasoned professionals, we shared some Broadway heritage, from Street Scene and Carousel to Fun Home and Parade. We did this not just for the beautiful music, but to showcase some of the incredible talent of the new generation of young musicians.
Where did you get your start?
It’s a question often asked of experienced artists. For Julie Jordan Gunn, things began in part in Drytown, California, a gold-mining-town-turned-summer-theatre-destination where, as Julie was growing up, the Jordan family would join the Claypipers Performance Troupe to present comedic melodramas and a special children’s showcase. Things built from there for Julie—and the story eventually included Nathan, too.
Created in partnership with the Peoria Riverfront Museum, I Hear America Singing brings America’s story to life through the power of song—honoring 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This is the inaugural performance of a show that will go on to travel as a gift to the nation to celebrate 250 years of America, and share our music with the next generation.
